Whilst things have seemed quiet for a while, a lot of progress has been taking place behind the scenes... Here is a quick update of where things stand, as well as news you may have missed .
The SMAa committee would like to thank you all for your continued and unwavering commitment over the past 13... yes, 13 years!
We are almost there - but not quite yet.
Below is some very exciting news to welcome us into 2026!
Bristow's HM Coastguard search and rescue helicopter services return to Manston!
Since Thursday 15th January 2026, due to ongoing disputes at Lydd Airport, Bristow have decided to leave Lydd Airport and split their helicopter operations between Lee-on-solent , Dover and Manston.
Manston will be used for re-fuelling, re-crewing and a place for crews to relax between shifts - with a vision to fully move all Lydd operations to Manston in the near future.
Below is an image of one of the helicopters at Manston - G-RESB - an Augusta Westland 139.

Manston's airspace change process with the CAA progresses.
The airspace change proposal for Manston - under the FASI South Programme - moved into STAGE 3 Commence Consultation / Engagement.
This means that consultations will be held to hear views on the proposed airspace change proposals.
They are scheduled to take place later this year.
